In the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024/25 season, Jammu and Kashmir’s Abdul Samad has etched his name in history as the first player from the state to score twin centuries in a single match. He achieved this remarkable feat against Odisha on October 21 at Barabati Stadium. In the first innings, Samad scored 127 runs off just 117 balls, showcasing his explosive batting with 6 fours and 9 sixes against the Odisha bowling attack.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Samad continued his dominance in the second innings, crafting another century in just 105 balls, which included 5 fours and 6 sixes. His exceptional performance not only highlights his talent but also positions him as a key player to watch in future tournaments, including the IPL.

Will SRH Retain Abdul Samad?

As the IPL 2025 retention deadline approaches, Sunrisers Hyderabad faces a pleasant dilemma with Abdul Samad emerging as a key player for their lower middle order. Reports indicate that SRH plans to retain South African wicketkeeper-batter, Heinrich Klaasen, Australian pacer Pat Cummins, batter Travis Head, along with India’s Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy ahead of the mega auction.

However, following Samad’s impressive twin centuries in the Ranji Trophy, the management is likely to take the young talent seriously. There’s potential for SRH to utilize their Right to Match card in the auction, ensuring they can keep this promising player in their squad for the upcoming season.
