Known more for his bowling, Bumrah surprised everyone by going all out against Broad, smashing him for 35 runs in a single over during a Test match. It was pure entertainment for fans and a reminder of that night in 2007. While Bumrah made history, Broad was once again on the wrong end of a record-breaking over. Let’s look back at how it all happened.

Stuart Broad vs Jasprit Bumrah in the 2022 Birmingham Test

With the ball in hand, Jasprit Bumrah is a dangerous athlete, but with the bat in hand, he is sometimes equally dangerous, and that’s what happened in an unforgettable Test cricket moment! The 84th over, bowled by Stuart Broad to India’s captain, became one of the priciest overs ever, giving up a massive 35 runs. India’s score skyrocketed from 377/9 to 412/9, lifting their run rate to a strong 4.90. Bumrah, batting at number 10, turned hero with the bat, smashing 29 runs off just 14 balls, including four fours and two sixes.

His fearless swings put him atop a rare list for the most runs in a single Test over, surpassing legends like Brian Lara and George Bailey. The over started with a bang as Broad bowled a short ball that Bumrah hooked, sending a huge top edge past fielder Zak Crawley for four. Things got crazier when Broad overstepped, delivering a no-ball, and Bumrah whacked a full toss for a six, adding seven runs. Broad’s woes continued with a short ball that flew over Bumrah and keeper Sam Billings, earning five wides.

Bumrah kept the pressure on, smashing a full toss through mid-on for another four. The next ball was edged to fine leg for four more, followed by a powerful shot through midwicket for yet another boundary, even though Bumrah ended up in a heap on the ground. The over closed with a quick single, as Bumrah tipped the ball and ran, with Mohammed Siraj barely diving to safety. This wild over matched the Test record for the most runs in a single over, with 29 runs off Bumrah’s bat plus extras. India’s tail, often thought to be weak, proved its might.
