Mike Hussey has praised Pat Cummins' leadership of Australia's Test team, placing them among the country's best. Australia’s victories, including regaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and winning the 2023 World Test Championship, showcase their dominance. Being one of the best captains in modern cricket, Pat Cummins has led Australia to remarkable successes, with former player Mike Hussey praising the team’s place among Australia’s best. Cummins’ leadership, which began in the 2021/22 Ashes series, has resulted in significant victories, including the regaining of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 3-1 win over India, and the team’s triumph in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He said:
I think they have got to be right up there because they’ve won pretty much everything. They’ve won the Ashes. They’ve won World Cups. I know Test cricket is different to white-ball cricket, but in Pat Cummins’ reign, this is the one they didn’t have, beating India. They’ve been able to keep this core group together for a long, long, long period of time. We’ve highlighted the bowling group and the amount of wickets they’ve got together. It’s been incredible.
Under Cummins, Australia has also dominated bilateral Test series, solidifying their position in world cricket. Cummins has taken 130 Test wickets at an average of 23.50 and was awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy in 2023.
Despite the team’s age, former spinner Kerry O’Keeffe highlighted the squad’s consistency, pointing out that they continue to win series and overcome challenges, showcasing their resilience. The Australian team, though aging, remains one of the most formidable in international cricket, maintaining high performance across multiple formats.
