Amid the ongoing controversy, former cricketer Manoj Tiwary has accused Gautam Gambhir of verbal abuse and threats during their time together at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. In an interview with “The Lallantop”, Tiwary recounted a heated argument with Gambhir over his batting position during a match at Eden Gardens, which nearly escalated into a physical altercation before being diffused by Wasim Akram, KKR’s bowling coach at the time.
Tiwary further alleged that Gambhir followed him to the washroom and threatened him, saying, “This attitude won’t work. I’ll never let you play”. He also claimed Gambhir’s animosity extended to Sourav Ganguly, accusing him of making derogatory remarks about Ganguly when he joined the Cricket Association of Bengal.
Additionally, Tiwary recalled a Ranji Trophy match in 2015 where Gambhir allegedly abused him from the slips and pushed an umpire who tried to intervene.
In prior statements, Tiwary criticized Gambhir for being a “hypocrite” regarding coaching decisions, pointing out the appointment of foreign coaches Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel, despite Gambhir’s earlier opposition to such hires. These allegations have added a controversial twist to Gambhir’s tenure as India’s head coach.
