Kapil Dev Pays Tribute to Ravichandran Ashwin After His Retirement
Kapil Dev shared his thoughts on Ravichandran Ashwin's sudden retirement from international cricket. The legendary all-rounder said he would have given Ashwin a respectful farewell if he had been part of the team at the time.
After the third Test between Australia and India at the Gabba, Ravichandran Ashwin surprised everyone by retiring from international cricket. His unexpected decision left the cricketing world in shock, leading to an outpouring of heartfelt messages and tributes for the experienced off-spinner.
Kapil Dev shared his thoughts on Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement, saying he would have ensured Ashwin received a respectful send-off. He acknowledged how difficult it is for players to decide to retire after a successful career. He said:
(Ravichandran) Ashwin has gone. I wish I had been there, I wouldn’t have let him go like that. I would have sent him with a lot of respect and happiness because when you leave something that you love, it’s very tough and we have to respect those people.

Kapil emphasized the importance of honoring cricketers for their contributions and mentioned he wouldn’t have let Ashwin leave quietly without proper recognition and respect for his achievements in international cricket.
In his last match for India, Ravichandran Ashwin took figures of 1-53 at the Adelaide Oval against Australia, but the team suffered a heavy defeat. Following this, he was dropped for the next Test in favor of Ravindra Jadeja, marking the end of his participation in the series.
