Is Ajinkya Rahane’s IPL 2025 Campaign Over After Hand Injury?

When the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a 14-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 29 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, captain Ajinkya Rahane’s hand injury became the major talking point. Rahane injured himself in the 12th over while attempting to stop a shot from Faf du Plessis and did not return to the field. Sunil Narine stepped in as captain and delivered a match-winning spell of 3/29, including key wickets of Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, and du Plessis.
After the game, Rahane assured fans that the injury wasn’t serious, stating, “I’ll be okay”. However, KKR confirmed he would undergo further medical evaluation. In IPL 2025 so far, Rahane has scored 297 runs in 10 matches at an average of 37.12 and a strike rate close to 150.
Despite the win, Rahane felt KKR were 15 runs short after posting 204, crediting Narine’s final overs for sealing the game. At 136/3 in 14 overs, DC looked strong until Narine’s game-changing spell.
KKR currently sits seventh on the points table with 9 points from 10 games. Drawing comparisons to their 2021 playoff run, Rahane urged the team to stay focused and take confidence into their next match against Rajasthan Royals on May 4 at Eden Gardens.
