IPL 2025: LSG Retain Nicholas Pooran, Part Ways With KL Rahul
Wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran will reportedly be retained by the Lucknow Super Giants for a massive INR 21 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 IPL auction. Led by Sanjiv Goenka, the franchise values Pooran’s skills, making him one of their most valuable player for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
Earlier reports suggest Nicholas Pooran would be retained by LSG for INR 18 crore. However, recent updates reveal that the West Indies batter was in Kolkata to meet the franchise owner to finalise the retention amount. This meeting led to adjustment in the expected figure, showing his value to the team ahead of the IPL 2025.
Dr. Sanjiv Goenka, owner of Lucknow Super Giants, was excited to make a high offer, securing Nicholas Pooran as their top retention choice for INR 20 crore. Reports says this decision was fully supported by the coaching staff. Pooran, with a strike rate of 162.29, was preferred over KL Rahul. Head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan admired his ability to impact games swiftly.
Nicholas Pooran shined in IPL 2024, scoring 499 runs at a strike rate of 178.21. His top performance came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he achieved a strike rate of 300, showcasing his talent. Besides Pooran, the franchise will retain Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi at INR 11 crore each. In the uncapped category, Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan will receive INR 4 crore.
KL Rahul has chosen to leave the LSG and will enter the IPL 2025 auction. Reports suggest he was offered the franchise’s top retention spot but declined for personal and professional reasons.
