In the fourth Test of the India tour of Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia defeated India by 184 runs, securing a dominant victory. Australia posted a formidable 474 in their first innings, anchored by Steven Smith’s stellar 140. India responded with a total of 369, highlighted by Nitish Kumar Reddy’s resilient 114, but they still trailed by 105 runs. Australia’s second innings saw them set a challenging target of 340, finishing at 234 all out.

Marnus Labuschagne contributed a steady 70, while Nathan Lyon added 41 valuable runs. In India’s chase, the pressure was evident as no batter could withstand Australia’s relentless bowling attack. Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored with 82, but India was dismissed for just 155. Australia’s bowlers, led by Pat Cummins and Lyon, were ruthless in their execution, with Lyon claiming key wickets, including that of Rishabh Pant.

The comprehensive win, securing 12 points in the World Test Championship standings for Australia, left India with no points from the match. This victory, with standout performances from Smith, Cummins, and Lyon, sealed a memorable series for Australia, played in front of a record-breaking crowd at the MCG.
