IND W vs NZ W: Harmanpreet and Co. Prepares for Women’s ODI World Cup
India Women's team prepares for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, after a poor performance in the Women's T20 World Cup, leading to a group stage exit. Richa Ghosh, Asha Sobhana, and Pooja Vastrakar set to miss, as Harmanpreet Kaur leads.
The Indian Women’s cricket team will be going through another challenge under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, as the team prepares for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. India was not able to perform well in the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, where New Zealand emerged as the winner, and India got out of the league stages.
This series will be important for Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who has been questioned for the team’s performance in recent times. Although she was the top run scorer for the team in the T20 World Cup, it is necessary to regain the winning momentum in the upcoming series against New Zealand which starts on 24 October.
Harmanpreet Kaur faced a lot of criticism after the disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup. However, she has retained the captain spot for the series against New Zealand. It might be even more challenging for her to play without the main wicket-keeper of the team, Richa Ghosh. She is set to miss the series due to her class 12th board exams.
During the match against Australia in the recent T20 World Cup, the criticism for Kaur grew even more as she rotated the strike in the last over for Shreyanka Patil to smash two sixes for the win. Various experts and fans have questioned her decision for the same, as the top order batter failed to get the team the much-needed win.
Asha Sobhana and Pooja Vastrakar also won’t be available to play for the team, due to the injuries they have suffered recently. There are three players who will be playing their first international game, which includes Tejal Hasbini, Salma Thakor, and Priya Mishra.
