IND vs NZ: Washington Sundar’s Masterclass Limits New Zealand to 259
Washington Sundar took 7 wickets in the first innings against New Zealand, restricting them to 259 runs. Marking his return in the international format, Sundar started by taking off the important wicket of Rachin Ravindra with a dream delivery.
Washington Sundar came out as the impact player for the Indian cricket team in the second Test match against New Zealand in Pune. The Kiwis had the upper hand for the first two sessions of the game, as they lost five wickets but Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra scored impressive half-century innings.
Ravichandran Ashwin started the game by dismissing the three batsmen of New Zealand with his bowling skills. He was later joined by Washington Sundar, who took the much-needed wicket of Rachin Ravindra. This helped the Indian team to regain the momentum and pushed New Zealand to the defensive approach.
The wicket of Rachin Ravindra was also quickly followed by the wickets of Tom Blundell and Daryl Mitchell, bowling some impressive deliveries which confused them. This was followed by a building partnership between Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips, as Phillips lost his wicket also to Sundar.
In his next over, Washington Sundar marked his first international five-wicket haul by dismissing Tim Southee at the score of 5. This completely pushed India to a forward position, as Ajaz Patel also lost his wicket in the last ball of the 78th over. Santner tried to score some runs for the team while preventing Will O’Rourke from getting the strike. But he ultimately lost his wicket to Sundar getting bowled out. Therefore, Washington Sundar marked his career best figures by taking 7 wickets and conceding just 59 runs in 23.1 overs.
