New Zealand Women's team scripted history by defeating South Africa Women in the finals to clinch their first T20 World Cup title. The Proteas entered consecutive finals but failed to clinch the win. Winners were awarded with a whopping 19.6 crore INR of the prize pool.
The New Zealand Women’s cricket team won their first World Cup title by defeating South Africa Women in the finals by 32 runs. This was also the team’s first T20 World Cup title for men and women. They faced South African women in the finals, and the opposition sent them to bat first.
The team led by Sophie Devine scored 158 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs, setting the target of 159. However, the South Africa Women’s team collapsed yet again, as the team scored just 126 runs for the loss of 9 wickets and no balls remaining. This was the second consecutive time the Proteas entered the tournament finals but could not win the title.
Let’s look at the prize the New Zealand Women’s team received for winning the title. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a raise of 134% for the winners of this edition, due to which the team won a whopping 2.34 million US dollars. When converted to Indian rupees, it is approximately 19.6 crore INR.
Other Prizes
ICC also announced that in this edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, there will be prizes for the teams at group stages and knockouts. Australia and West Indies, who got knocked out in the semi-finals, also received the prize of 675,000 US dollars or 5.7 crore Indian rupees each.
The group stage rankings have not been confirmed till now, but India finished with two wins in their four matches. Therefore, they are expected to finish the tournament in the 6th position, where they’re likely to win 270,000 US dollars or approximately 2.25 crore Indian rupees, which will also be rewarded to the remaining best three teams in the group stage.
