Gavaskar Calls on Gambhir to Reinforce India’s Batting for High-Stakes Australia Series
Following India's unprecedented 3-0 Test series defeat to New Zealand at home, concerns about the team’s batting performance have intensified. Following the ongoing tension about the selection of the India team in the WTC final, Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar added another angle to the current scenario and emphasized that the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia presents a formidable challenge for the Indian lineup.
Speaking to reporters, Gavaskar urged head coach Gautam Gambhir to actively support the batters as they prepare for the tour. He said,
Gautam Gambhir will have to guide the players in Australia properly as the team will face a very tough time there.
Seeing the miserable collapse, he further added
He has made more runs than both Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate in Test cricket, so only Gautam Gambhir will have to tell the players about how to bat in Australia and what should be the batting approach, maybe we can come up with a good performance.
His statement clearly indicates the fact that while India’s coaching staff includes Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches, they have not had much test cricket experience to guide the Indian team to recover from this disaster, on the other hand, Gavaskar highlighted Gambhir’s unique experience, which could be instrumental in rebuilding confidence among the batters. Despite Gambhir’s forgettable Test record in Australia, Gavaskar believes his insights could provide critical guidance and preparation to improve the team’s batting resilience against Australia’s formidable attack.
