Daniel Vettori Targets Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head After Another Away Loss in IPL 2025
Following Sunrisers Hyderabad's four-wicket defeat to Mumbai Indians at Wankhede, head coach Daniel Vettori criticized the batting efforts of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Vettori emphasized the need to adapt better to tricky pitches, especially with no away wins so far. SRH posted 162 for 5, with Abhishek scoring 40 off 28 and Head making a sluggish 28 off 29. Despite Pat Cummins taking 3 for 26, MI chased the target in 18.1 overs, leaving SRH ninth on the table with just two wins in seven matches.

After the loss against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance, particularly criticizing the inability of key batters Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma to adapt to the pitch conditions. SRH, the only side yet to register an away win in IPL 2025, posted 162 for 5 in their 20 overs after being put into bat.
Abhishek scored a brisk 40 off 28 balls, but Travis Head struggled with a slow 28 off 29 deliveries. Vettori admitted that while conditions were tough, the team needed to adjust better, noting that venues like Chennai and Ahmedabad often offer similar challenges. He felt 180 would have been a par score, but SRH’s innings lacked momentum, especially during the middle overs. He said:
I feel like no one really has control over their surface. So there’s a little bit of luck involved in terms of coming up against wickets that don’t suit us. But I think there has to be more to it from our side that we have to adapt.
Despite Pat Cummins taking 3 for 26 and a late fightback, Mumbai chased down the target in 18.1 overs to hand SRH their fifth loss in seven games. Sitting ninth on the table, SRH’s inability to finish strongly and capitalize on solid starts continues to cost them crucial points. Vettori emphasized the need for batters to show greater flexibility and awareness in such conditions moving forward.
