BCCI Set for Major Overhaul as Support Staff Including T. Dilip to Be Sacked After Champions Trophy Win
Despite India's Champions Trophy triumph, the BCCI is planning a drastic revamp. A secret meeting in Guwahati on March 29 between Secretary Devajit Saikia, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar will decide the fate of long-standing support staff. Reports suggest assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T. Dilip could be axed as BCCI enforces a three-year tenure limit. Additionally, players like Shreyas Iyer might be reinstated in the central contracts after his impressive comeback.
When it comes to India’s cricket support staff, a major shake-up is expected. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar will meet in Guwahati on March 29 to discuss key changes in central contracts and the team’s support staff. The board is reportedly planning to reduce the number of support staff members, with a new policy stating that no one can serve for more than three years.
As a result, fielding coach T. Dilip and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar are likely to be removed. The current support staff also includes bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, and physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain, among others. Many of them have been with the team for an extended period, and their roles may now be reconsidered.
The BCCI is also set to revise its central contracts. Shreyas Iyer, who was dropped last year for skipping domestic cricket, is expected to be reinstated due to his recent performances. The upcoming meeting coincides with the IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30, making it a crucial period for Indian cricket’s future decisions.
