The Hobart Hurricanes secured a dominant victory over the Sydney Thunder in the 29th Big Bash League match of the 2024/25 season at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. Chasing 165 for victory, the Hurricanes triumphed with six wickets in hand and 19 balls to spare, finishing at 165/4 in 16.5 overs. Tim David emerged as the star of the match, blasting an unbeaten 68 off 38 balls, including four fours and six sixes, at a strike rate of 178.94.

His explosive finish included 39 runs off his last 11 balls, ensuring a comfortable win for the Hurricanes. Chris Jordan provided a steady partnership, contributing 18 off 13 balls. The duo’s unbroken 65-run stand-off just 28 balls sealed the game. Earlier, the Sydney Thunder posted 164/6 in their 20 overs, powered by David Warner’s valiant 88 off 66 balls, laced with seven boundaries.

However, their innings lacked significant contributions from other batters, with only Alex Ross managing 22. Riley Meredith led the Hurricanes’ bowling with 2/30, supported by George Garton’s 2/31. This win propelled the Hurricanes to the top of the points table with 11 points from seven matches. Tim David was named Player of the Match for his match-winning knock.
