Aussie Star Will Pucovski Retires at 27 After 15+ Concussions – Ends Career with Just 1 Test!

After being the face of Australia’s next-generation batting hopes, Will Pucovski has announced a shocking retirement from cricket at just 27 years old. The right-hander, who played his only Test in 2021, has been forced to quit the game due to persistent concussion issues. Over his career, Pucovski suffered more than 15 head injuries, with the final blow coming during a Sheffield Shield match in March 2024. Despite a strong 2023-24 domestic season that included a century against New South Wales, he suffered from symptoms like dizziness, fatigue, and left-side weakness.

A medical panel recommended retirement to prevent further long-term brain damage. Speaking to SEN Radio, Pucovski confirmed, “I’m not going to be playing cricket again”, admitting he struggled with basic daily tasks and extensive fatigue. Although he hoped for recovery, he ultimately accepted that the decision was necessary for his well-being.

Pucovski ends his first-class career with 2,350 runs at an average of 45.19 and just one Test appearance to his name. He plans to stay connected to the sport by coaching at Melbourne’s Premier club and exploring a future in commentary.
