Aaqib Javed Set to Step Up as Pakistan Cricket’s New Mentor Following Kirsten’s Exit
Aaqib Javed has recently expressed his keen interest in taking on a significant mentorship role for Pakistan's white-ball teams, particularly after Gary Kirsten's resignation. While it's turning out to be very ironic that he had previously criticized Misbah-ul-Haq for holding dual roles as both selector and head coach, he appears to be following a similar path.
Currently serving as the national selector, Javed has indicated his desire to give coaching to the emerging players following Kirsten’s departure. Reports suggest that although he may not be looking for the head coach position, he is interested in guiding the next generation of cricketers with his huge experience.
Renowned journalist Saleem Khaliq shared on social media that Javed does not wish to be the head coach but is focused on supporting new talent to grow and help the upcoming time of Pakistan cricket. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering appointing him as the Director of High Performance shortly, aligning with his ambitions to nurture young players from the early days.
This shift in Javed’s focus reflects a desire to contribute to Pakistan cricket’s future without taking on the controversial dual role he once criticized. As discussions unfold, it remains to be seen how the PCB authority is looking to finalize its coaching strategy and whether Javed will assume a pivotal position in developing the next wave of talent.
