Virat Kohli’s Gift Turns Lucky! Nitish Reddy Slams Maiden Test Ton in MCG Wearing Kohli’s Shoes
Nitish Kumar Reddy revealed scoring his maiden Test century (171 balls) at the MCG wearing shoes gifted by Virat Kohli. The emotional moment saw 80,000 fans present, including his teary-eyed father. Reddy also shared funny sledding by Travis Head and confirmed his loyalty to SRH for IPL 2025 despite other offers.
During the Test series against Australia, India’s rising all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy shared a memorable moment where he scored his maiden Test century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) wearing shoes gifted by Virat Kohli. Recalling the incident on a podcast, Nitish revealed that during a dressing room chat, Kohli jokingly asked for shoe sizes and gifted him a pair. Nitish wore those shoes in the next match and smashed a hundred off 171 balls, dedicating the special moment to his father, who was emotional in the stands among 80,000 fans. He said:
Back in the locker room, he (Kohli) once asked Sarfaraz (Khan), “Sarfu, tera size kya hai?” (Sarfaraz, what’s your shoe size?), and he said, “Nine”. Then he turned to me, and I thought, “Oh my god, I have to guess this correctly”, because even if they weren’t my size, I really wanted his shoes. I said, “10”, and he gave them to me. In the next match, I wore those shoes and scored a hundred!
Nitish also recalled how his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Travis Head tried distracting him during the game with light-hearted sledding, asking about party plans, and later warning him while fielding at short leg.
Despite receiving offers from other IPL teams, Nitish chose loyalty towards SRH for IPL 2025, citing the emotional connect and fan support he feels from the Orange Army. He expressed his strong desire to help SRH win the title and appreciated the bond he shares with Telugu fans, who treat him like their own whenever he represents the franchise.
