The Australian top-order batsman, Steven Smith, has been practising way hard for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which will be held in Australia. However, his practices have not been able to pay off till now, as Smith failed to score well yet again in the current season of the Sheffield Shield.

In the match against Victoria, Smith got out at the score of 3 runs in the first innings. With the hopes of making a comeback in the next innings, he was dismissed at a duck by Scott Boland by LBW. New South Wales were chasing a massive target of 383 in the fourth innings, as Victoria took a lead to the game.

Steven Smith came to bat during the third over of the game after Nic Maddinson lost his wicket to Scott Boland. This was followed by Smith’s wicket, who got out on his fourth delivery against Boland. He attempted to leave the delivery but the ball came towards the stump, making contact with his pads. Boland made the appeal along with the other teammates, and the umpire gave it out.

George Bailey on Smith’s Dismissal

Former Australian cricketer George Bailey also expressed his views on the current form of Steven Smith when sent to bat at top positions. He said that ever since David Warner retired for the team, Smith has been there as an opener but wishes to move himself down to the middle order.

Many discussions have been regarding Smith’s batting position for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bailey said,

I think Steve had expressed a desire to move back down from that opening position. Pat and Andrew have confirmed that he will be dropping back the order for the summer. So, yeah, clearly we’ve got a No. 4 spot to fill and an opening spot to fill.
