Shakib Al Hasan Faces Ban on Bowling Ahead of CT 2025, Major Blow for Bangladesh

Shakib Al Hasan has been banned from bowling in all ICC-sanctioned domestic and international competitions due to an illegal bowling action, as confirmed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. This decision follows an assessment by the ECB after Surrey's loss to Somerset. Shakib will undergo further testing, and if cleared, he may resume bowling. He remains eligible to play as a batter.

Bangladesh’s star All-rounder and one of the best players for the team, Shakib Al Hasan, has been banned from bowling in both domestic and international cricket following an illegal action ruling by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The suspension stems from an independent assessment at an ICC-accredited center, which deemed his bowling action illegal.

Initially believed to apply only to England’s domestic tournaments, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) clarified that Shakib is banned from bowling in all ICC-sanctioned events, including international cricket. However, he remains eligible to play as a batter. BCB said:

The BCB also understands that, according to clause 11.4 of the ICC regulations, Shakib may undergo further analysis at an ICC-accredited testing center. If the results of this analysis clear his action, Shakib will be allowed to bowl in international cricket.

This marks the first time since Shakib’s debut in 2006 that he has faced such a ban. He will undergo further testing at an ICC-accredited center, and if cleared, he will be allowed to bowl again. Shakib, who has over 14,000 runs and 700 wickets in international cricket, is aiming to represent Bangladesh in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
