What can be termed as a one-sided contest at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the 50th match of the IPL 2025 between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals turned out to be a complete domination by the visiting side. Mumbai Indians crushed Rajasthan Royals by a massive 100 runs, registering their sixth straight win and climbing to the top of the points table with 14 points and a net run rate of +1.274 and this defeat also knocked Rajasthan Royals out of the playoff race.

Mumbai Indians Strong Batting Order

After being sent into bat, MI’s top-order clicked brilliantly, producing one of the most commanding performances of IPL 2025. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton laid the foundation with a massive 116-run partnership. Rickelton, continuing his golden run, scored a classy 61 off 38 balls, which included 7 fours and 3 sixes. He played with excellent timing and placement, punishing every loose delivery.

At the other end, Rohit Sharma played the perfect supporting role, anchoring the innings with a fluent 53 off 36 balls, including 9 boundaries. His return to form has been crucial for MI in recent games. After both openers fell in quick succession, Rickelton bowled by Theekshana and Rohit caught off Parag, MI were still in a strong position at 123/2 in 12.4 overs. Then came the fireworks from Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, who put together an explosive 94-run unbeaten partnership off just 44 balls. Both batsmen ended with 48 off 23 deliveries, scoring at a strike rate above 200.

SKY was innovative and aggressive, finding gaps with ease, while Hardik played with raw power, smashing 6 fours and a six. Their effort propelled Mumbai to a daunting 217/2 in 20 overs, one of the highest totals in this season and the joint-best IPL score at this venue. The Rajasthan Royals bowling was thoroughly outplayed. Fazalhaq Farooqi went for 54 in his 4 overs, while Theekshana and Jofra Archer also conceded heavily. Only Parag (2 overs, 1/12) kept things tight. With such a target on the board, the pressure was now completely on the Royals.

Rajasthan Royals Massive Collapse

Rajasthan Royals needed a strong start to have any hope of chasing down 218, but things fell apart from the very first over. The team was reduced to 1/2 inside the first four balls, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi falling for a duck and Yashasvi Jaiswal getting dismissed for 13 after hitting two sixes.

The middle order couldn’t recover. Nitish Rana fell for 9, and captain Riyan Parag departed after a quick 16. Shimron Hetmyer, a dangerous finisher, was dismissed for a golden duck. At 47/5 in just 5 overs, Rajasthan’s chances were effectively over. There were brief sparks from Shubham Dubey (15 off 9) and Jofra Archer (30 off 27), but they were just damage control attempts. Archer tried to resist with a couple of boundaries and sixes, but he had no support at the other end.

Spinner Karn Sharma was the surprise hero for MI, picking up 3 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs. Jasprit Bumrah, ever-reliable, was unplayable again with 2 wickets for just 15 runs in his full quota. Trent Boult also found the rhythm and took 3/28, cleaning up the top order early.
RR folded for 117 in just 16.1 overs, crashing to a 100-run defeat, their worst loss this season.

The decision to field first completely backfired, and the batting lineup, known for aggression, failed under scoreboard pressure. No batter apart from Archer even crossed the 20-run mark, highlighting the lack of intent and application. This was the Royals’ eighth loss in 11 games, confirming what had been looming for weeks as they are now officially out of the IPL 2025 playoff race.

What’s Happening in the Points Table?

With this massive win, Mumbai Indians now sit at the top of the IPL 2025 points table with 14 points from 11 matches and a strong Net Run Rate of +1.274. Their sixth straight win has made them one of the title favourites, and they are just a victory away from sealing their playoff berth officially.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals’ hopes are over. With only 3 wins in 11 matches, they are stuck on 6 points, and even if they win their remaining games, they cannot mathematically qualify and it’s the end of the road for RR in IPL 2025 as they will now look to get some positives for the next season.

TCNI’s Magic Moment of the Day

For the Mumbai Indians fans, the TCNI’s Magic Moment of the Day has to be the moment when Rohit Sharma decided to review an LBW decision in the second over of the match against Rajasthan Royals. It was a delivery from Fazalhaq Farooqi that had everything going against Rohit like angled in, skidding low, and striking him flush on the back thigh as he attempted a flick. The on-field umpire wasted no time raising the finger, and even Rohit looked convinced he was gone. His body language suggested it, and he began walking over to his partner Ryan Rickelton with doubt in his eyes. But Rickelton immediately urged Rohit to take a review, perhaps spotting something in the trajectory. Rohit, trusting his partner, signaled for DRS at the very last second and the review turned out to be a game-changer.

Ball tracking showed that just more than half of the ball had pitched outside leg stump, which meant Rohit was saved by the finest of margins. As the decision was overturned, Rohit smiled in relief, knowing how close he came to walking back early. That decision completely changed the course of the game. From what could have been a wicket in the powerplay, Rohit Sharma went on to score 53 runs off just 36 balls, including 9 crisp boundaries. He looked in full control once settled and played a pivotal role in building a massive opening partnership of 116 runs with Ryan Rickelton. Their stand provided the perfect platform for Mumbai Indians to launch in the death overs and post a mammoth 217/2 on the board.

TCNI’s Hero of the Day

Being awarded as the TCNI’s Hero of the Day for his amazing heroics knock of 3 wickets in just 2.1 overs, Trent Boult played a massive role in Mumbai Indians’ dominant win over Rajasthan Royals. The left-arm pacer dismantled RR’s top order right from the start and set the tone for what turned out to be a one-sided contest at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Bowling with his trademark swing and precision, Boult first removed the dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had smashed two sixes in the opening over.

Then, he struck again to dismiss Nitish Rana, who was looking to rebuild the innings after early losses. His third and final wicket came when he got rid of Jofra Archer, who was the last major hope left for RR in the chase. Boult finished with match-winning figures of 3 for 28 in 2.1 overs, breaking the back of RR’s batting lineup before the powerplay even ended. His early breakthroughs ensured the Royals never recovered, collapsing for just 117 in response to MI’s 217/2.
