Massive Rift in Pakistan Camp? Senior Players Plotting Against Shaheen Afridi Exposed!
Reports from journalist Shoaib Jatt reveal a major rift in Pakistan’s dressing room, dating back to the 2024 New Zealand tour. Senior players allegedly lobbied against Shaheen Afridi after he offered to resign as T20I captain after a poor series. Shaheen also wanted Babar Azam to bat at No. 3 and promote Saim Ayub, but management resisted. Eventually, Shaheen was sacked after just one series, reinstating Babar.

In the latest development from Pakistan cricket, reports of a rift within the dressing room have resurfaced, with senior players allegedly lobbying against pacer Shaheen Afridi. According to journalist Shoaib Jatt from Samaa TV and ARY News, the friction began during Pakistan’s 2024 tour of New Zealand, where the team performed poorly in the T20I series. After a disappointing match in Dunedin, then-captain Shaheen addressed the team, urging them to improve, and even offered to step down if the management or players desired.
This statement reportedly angered senior players, eventually leading to his removal as T20I captain after just one series. Jatt further revealed that senior players believe Shaheen negatively impacts the dressing room environment. Another point of contention was Shaheen’s decision to push Babar Azam down to number three in T20Is while promoting Saim Ayub as an opener.
However, for the T20 World Cup, the management reverted to Babar opening the innings, a move that backfired as Babar struggled throughout the tournament. Following the New Zealand tour, Babar was reinstated as captain. Speculation now surrounds Shaheen’s place in the T20I squad, with potential replacements being considered if Pakistan decides to drop the left-arm pacer.
