Major Changes At BCB as Nazmul Hassan and Others Removed During Political Unrest
Nazmul Hassan has been permanently removed from the Bangladesh Cricket Board after missing three or more meetings in a row. His removal follows the rules set out in the BCB constitution. This decision highlights the importance of attendance and participation in the board's activities.
The new administration team, led by BCB Faruque Ahmed, removed 11 directors, including Nazmul Hassan and Sheikh Sohel, the chairman of the Bangladesh Premier League. Additionally, the BCB established a committee to change its constitution, which is headed by director Nazmul Hassan.
The board also removed Manzur Kader, AJM Nasir Uddin, Anwarul Islam, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanvir Ahmed, Obeid Nizam, Gazi Golam Murtoza, and Nasib Ahmed. All 11 members have been absent since the political uprising in Bangladesh on August 5, when the Awami League government was overthrown. To ensure her safety, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to leave the country during this crisis.
The BCB has set up a committee to change its constitution, led by director Nazmul Abedeen. According to the reports, the committee’s main purpose is to review the current constitution and determine if any improvements are necessary. This initiative aims to ensure that the board’s rules and regulations are up-to-date and effective for the future.
Two weeks after the temporary government, led by Muhammad Yunus, took control of the country, Faruque Ahmed was sworn in as the board president. He was appointed by the BCB directors, while Nazmul Abedeen became a director, replacing Jalal Yunus, who resigned after the government change. Ahmed is the first international cricketer from Bangladesh to hold the position of board president, following the resignation of former president Nazmul Hassan.
