Kaif Criticises India’s Collapse, Dismisses Ajaz Patel’s Success as ‘Gifted’ by Reckless Batting
Ajaz Patel took 15 wickets in three test matches, helping New Zealand achieve a historic 3-0 sweep over India. His spin bowling was particularly effective at Wankhede stadium, where he claimed an impressive 11 wickets, highlighting India's struggle against skilled spin bowlers in the third and final test.
India’s batting lineup, which includes well-known players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill, typically excels against spin bowling. However, they struggled against the New Zealand spinner during the series and ended up losing all three matches. The games were played on spinning pitches, highlighting the tourist strength and the host’s difficulties in adapting to the conditions.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has surprisingly refused to recognize Ajaz Patel as a world-class spinner, even though Patel was the highest wicket-taker for New Zealand in the recent test series in India. In a recent social media video, Kaif claimed that it was the Indian batting lineup that underperformed, suggesting that spinners like Ajaz Patel often play club cricket in India, which diminishes his threat.
Mohammad Kaif argued that Indian cricket has many players like Ajaz Patel and he felt India’s batting collapse was due to their own mistakes and poor shot selection rather than Patel’s skills. Kaif called it embarrassing that Indian batters struggled so much against part-time bowlers like Patel and Glenn Phillips, which led to their loss in the three-match test series.
Also, Kaif criticized the Indian batters for handing success to the Kiwi spinner at Wankhede through careless dismissals and failing to adjust to his line and length. He also mentioned that Glenn Phillips, a part-time bowler with limited skills, still managed to trouble the Indian batters, highlighting their struggles in the series.
