Is Virat Kohli Really Playing in BBL? Sydney Sixers’ Shocking Announcement!
Sydney Sixers stunned fans by announcing Virat Kohli’s signing for two Big Bash League seasons. However, it was an April Fools’ prank. Kohli, IPL’s highest run-scorer with 8094 runs, has started IPL 2025 strong, leading RCB to the top of the table with scores of 59* and 31 in two matches.

After being the highest run-getter in IPL history with 8,094 runs, Virat Kohli became the center of a lighthearted April Fools’ Day prank by the Sydney Sixers. The Australian Big Bash League (BBL) team announced on April 1, 2025, that they had signed Kohli for the next two seasons, creating a buzz among cricket fans. However, the Sixers later clarified that it was just a joke, as Indian players are not allowed to participate in foreign leagues unless they retire from international and IPL cricket.
Despite the prank, Kohli has been in fine form for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025. He started the season with an unbeaten 59 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), helping RCB secure a convincing victory. In the next match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he managed 31 off 30 balls, contributing to RCB’s rare 50-run win at Chepauk.
RCB currently leads the points table, and Kohli will be back in action on April 2 when they take on Gujarat Titans. While the idea of Kohli playing alongside Steve Smith for the Sixers remains a fantasy, the prank entertained fans and highlighted his continued impact in the IPL.
