With the IPL 2025 season in full swing, illegal betting activities continue to pose a major concern. During the high-stakes match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 8, the Delhi Police busted a significant betting racket in Swatantra Nagar, Narela. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the site at around 10:40 PM and arrested two accused — Rohit Kumar and Tejender Singh — who were caught red-handed while accepting live bets during the match.

The setup included five smartphones with active SIM cards, a specialized communication device known as a “dabba phone” (commonly used in underground betting for quick updates), a microphone, and a notebook with handwritten betting records. The suspects also had ₹20,000 in ₹500 notes and a Sony LED TV streaming the game via the OM777 app, which is often associated with unauthorized streams and illegal betting syndicates.

Betting on cricket matches, including IPL, is banned under Indian laws such as the Prevention of Gambling Act and the Telegraph Act. Despite this, the lure of quick money continues to fuel underground betting networks. The involvement of CSK again in the context of a betting bust has drawn added attention, echoing past controversies from earlier IPL seasons.
