India vs Australia: Tim Paine Labels R Ashwin as Annoying Over Gabba Comments

As the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy approaches, fans are reminiscing about the memorable 2020/21 series, particularly Tim Paine’s comments regarding Ravichandran Ashwin. Following Australia’s defeat in the fourth Test, which led to India winning the series 2-1, Paine was questioned about his remarks directed at Ashwin. When asked if he regretted his sledding, Paine firmly replied no, asserting that his comments were aimed solely at Ashwin. He also pointed out that Ashwin had missed the fourth Test due to back spasms, further contextualizing his comments in the competitive atmosphere of that intense series.

During the match, Tim Paine aimed to unsettle Ravichandran Ashwin, who had frequently dismissed him in previous encounters. He provocatively remarked, “I can’t wait to get you to the Gabba, Ash; I’ll tell you what, woohoo.” However, in the third Test, Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari managed to save the match, resulting in a draw.

Coming to the statement, Paine said:

No, I don’t because to this day Ashwin didn’t play in that (Brisbane) Test match. I wasn’t talking to the Indians, I was talking to him. I said we cannot wait to get you to the Gabba….because he was annoying us, fair to say. He is a fantastic cricketer. He was getting me out all the time and that was annoying me as well.

The Indian team is set to travel to Australia for the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a five-match Test series starting on November 22, 2024.
