When the ICC released its annual rankings update on May 5, 2025, Team India reaffirmed its dominance in white-ball cricket by retaining the No. 1 position in both ODIs and T20Is. India climbed to 124 rating points in ODIs after winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, while also holding a commanding 271 points in T20Is. In contrast, India slipped to fourth in the Test rankings with 105 points, as Australia maintained its top spot with 126 points despite a slight drop. England moved up to second in Tests with 113 points, pushing South Africa to third.

In ODIs, New Zealand, the Champions Trophy runner-up, rose to second place, relegating Australia to third. Sri Lanka surged to fourth following series wins over India and Australia, and Afghanistan made notable progress by climbing to seventh. Meanwhile, in T20Is, England, New Zealand, West Indies, and South Africa rounded out the top six.

The rankings now include 100 T20I teams, with Canada, the Bahamas, and Estonia making significant gains. While Ireland and Afghanistan still need more Test matches to enter the rankings officially, the ICC’s latest update highlights a shifting global cricket landscape with rising performances from emerging nations.
