After the 4 days of battle at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the Indian team finally managed to clinch the Test Match by 7 wickets on Day 5. West Indies put up a spirited fight in their second innings after being forced to follow on. India, led by Shubman Gill, had posted 518 for 5 declared in their first innings, while West Indies were bowled out for 248, leading to the follow-on on Day 3. Day 4: Morning Session: Campbell and Hope Frustrate India
The day began with India’s bowlers, led by spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, aiming to break the third-wicket partnership. Campbell and Hope, however, were unfazed, mixing solid defense with occasional attacking shots. In the 50th over, Campbell flicked Jadeja for a single, moving into the 90s with confidence. A tense moment came in the 55th over when India reviewed a caught-behind appeal against Campbell off Kuldeep. Umpire Richard Illingworth’s not-out call was upheld by DRS, showing no edge, boosting Campbell’s resolve. In the 56th over, he reached his century off 174 balls, including 9 fours and 3 sixes. His powerful pulls and drives lit up the sparse crowd, marking a resilient knock on a flat pitch.
By the 60th over, West Indies crossed 200 runs in 60.4 overs at a steady run rate of 3.3, with just 5 extras. The Campbell-Hope partnership grew to 150 runs off 236 balls, frustrating India’s bowlers. At drinks, after 63 overs, West Indies were 208 for 2, with Campbell on 111 and Hope on 75. India’s spinners toiled, but the pitch offered little assistance. Post-drinks, another close call came in the 64th over. Campbell was given out lbw to Jadeja, but DRS overturned the decision, showing the ball missing the stumps.
Gill rotated his bowlers, bringing in Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, but Campbell and Hope handled the pace comfortably. However, the breakthrough came later in the same over when Campbell, attempting a sweep off Jadeja, was trapped lbw for 115 off 199 balls (10 fours, 3 sixes). The review confirmed the decision, ending his superb innings. West Indies were 212 for 3, with Hope on 81.

Roston Chase, the West Indies captain, joined Hope, and the duo played cautiously, rotating the strike. Hope moved into the 90s with elegant boundaries off Washington Sundar. By the 77th over, West Indies reached 250 for 3 in 77.1 overs, still with only 5 extras. Lunch was called at 252 for 3 after 78 overs, with Hope unbeaten on 92 and Chase on 23. The session saw West Indies add 79 runs for one wicket, firmly in control.
Day 4: Post-Lunch: India Fight Back with New Ball
India took the new ball at 80.1 overs, hoping for movement. Bumrah and Siraj bowled tight lines, but the pitch remained flat. Hope and Chase built a 50-run fourth-wicket stand in 101 balls (Hope 22, Chase 28, 1 extra), pushing West Indies closer to wiping out the deficit. In the 82nd over, Hope reached his century off 204 balls (12 fours, 2 sixes), a classy knock of elegant drives and solid defense. He celebrated quietly, aware of the task ahead.

However, in the 84th over, Siraj struck, bowling Hope for 103 off 214 balls with a full delivery that nipped back. West Indies slipped to 271 for 4. Tevin Imlach joined Chase but faced a tough moment in the 86th over when India reviewed an lbw appeal off Kuldeep. DRS showed the umpire’s call on impact, letting Imlach survive. His luck ran out in the 90th over, though, when Kuldeep trapped him lbw for 12 off 33 balls with a sharp-turning delivery. West Indies were 293 for 5 at drinks, with Chase on 39.
Chase fell soon after, edging Kuldeep to substitute fielder Devdutt Padikkal at slip for 40 off 72 balls in the 92nd over, making it 298 for 6. Khary Pierre followed, caught at short leg off Kuldeep for a duck, leaving West Indies 298 for 7. Jomel Warrican was bowled by Bumrah for 3 off 6 balls in the 95th over (307 for 8), and Anderson Phillip fell caught behind off Bumrah for 2 off 10 balls (311 for 9).

TCNI’s Magic Moment of the Game
Making the most of a challenging situation, John Campbell’s gritty century stood out as the TCNI Magic Moment of the Game in the West Indies’ second innings, following on. Facing a formidable Indian bowling attack, Campbell scored a resilient 115 runs off 199 balls, smashing 26 fours and a six, with an impressive strike rate of 57.78. Campbell’s century was pivotal in a 177-run partnership with Shai Hope, who contributed 103 off 214 balls. Despite early setbacks, with Tagenarine Chanderpaul (10) and Alick Athanaze (7) falling cheaply, Campbell’s determination held the innings together. India’s bowlers, led by Kuldeep Yadav’s 3 for 104 and Jasprit Bumrah’s 3 for 44, kept the pressure on, but Campbell’s defiance shone through. Justin Greaves’ unbeaten 50 and Jayden Seales’ 32 added late resistance, but Campbell’s ton was the highlight, showcasing his skill and resolve under pressure against a disciplined Indian attack.
TCNI’s Hero of the Day
At the heart of India’s dominant bowling performance in the Test match against the West Indies, Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the TCNI Hero of the Day. The left-arm wrist-spinner delivered a stellar performance, claiming three crucial wickets in the West Indies’ second innings, which ended at 390 runs in 118.5 overs. Kuldeep bowled 29 overs, conceding 104 runs at an economy rate of 3.58, showcasing his ability to maintain pressure on the batting side. His key dismissals included Roston Chase (40), Tevin Imlach (12), and Khary Pierre (0), breaking the backbone of the West Indies’ middle order.

Chase’s wicket, caught by a substitute fielder, and Pierre’s quick dismissal in just two balls highlighted Kuldeep’s knack for turning the game in India’s favor. His disciplined bowling, combined with clever variations, troubled the batters on a pitch offering some assistance. Supported by Jasprit Bumrah’s three wickets and Ravindra Jadeja’s two, Kuldeep’s efforts ensured West Indies couldn’t recover after being forced to follow on.
