Dinesh Karthik Advices Virat Kohli to Play Domestic Cricket and Focus Against Spin
Dinesh Karthik says that Virat Kohli should play domestic cricket before leaving for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as his struggles against spin continues in the series against New Zealand. Kohli has managed to score 88 runs in 4 innings in the series.
India has lost a home series after 12 years against New Zealand, by giving them a lead of 2-0 in the first two games. With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy coming up on 22nd November, the form of Virat Kohli has been a concern for the Indian cricket team.
In the current series against New Zealand, Kohli has only managed to score 88 runs in 4 innings, of which his best score was 70 in the first Test. However, he has struggled to play spin, getting out both times against Mitchell Santner in the previous test match.
Virat Kohli’s form in Test has deteriorated over the past few years, as he scored his last Test hundred against West Indies in 2023. Along with that, Kohli has been experiencing a slump in Tests since 2020, which has also led to his Test average falling below 50. Talking about his form in the Test format, his former teammate Dinesh Karthik also put forward some advice.
Dinesh Karthik and Kohli have shared the same dressing room for the Indian cricket team and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Karthik said that
“Virat Kohli has not had it easy. The series has not been good to him, three out of four innings, he has disappointed. It’s a recurring pattern where spinners have troubled him, and I think he will go and figure out what he needs to do to come out stronger. He is a man, who is searching for answers. When you reach that level of genius and superstardom, you will be thrown challenges, and here is another challenge. India likes to play on pitches that aid spin, what is his game plan?”
