This is not the side where players brought laughter by their actions; it is when the players got themselves injured in some of the most ridiculous ways possible. Although some of these incidents are unfortunate, these stars still wonder why they were ruled out of a match or an entire series for such a stupid reason. Such incidents remind us that even professionals are humans, and mistakes do happen, terribly. Let’s take a look at some ridiculous ways in which players got themselves injured.

Aiden Markram

South African opener Aiden Markram suffered one of the worst injuries during the 2019 South Africa tour of India. The series didn’t go well for the Proteas, as they had already lost the first two matches. Aiden Markram also was not able to perform well, as he got out for consecutive ducks in the second Test. Out of frustration, he punched an object, which led to him hurting his wrist.

Following the CT scan, it was revealed that Markram had suffered a fracture in the wrist bones of his right hand. It was also confirmed that he couldn’t stay any longer in India, following which he was immediately sent home. Later, Aiden Markram also apologised for this issue, saying that he let his emotions take over him and offered no further excuses for the actions he had taken.

Jason Roy

Jason Roy, one of the finest English openers, also got his name on the list of players who got themselves injured in the most hilarious ways possible. Roy missed a crucial match in the 2018 Vitality Blast after he injured his face. This injury didn’t come through a physical altercation with a teammate or an opponent, as he injured himself mistakenly.

After getting out for a duck in the match against Hampshire, Jason Roy was a lot frustrated as he went towards the locker room. He threw his bat at the wall, but it rebounded well to hit him on his face. This was a hilarious moment for his teammates when they heard about his injury, as Roy also apologized to his teammates and fans that he did his stupidity.

Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer, a bowler who scares almost every batsman across the world, hurt himself in an unusual way, which led him to miss a few matches in 2021. While he was cleaning a fish tank in his flat at Hove, he was not able to hold a firm grip on the same. As a result, the fish tank fell down to the floor, which made Archer clean up the mess which has been created.

But while cleaning the same, the glass of the broken fish tank bowl cut his middle finger on the right hand. Due to this reason, he had to also undergo surgery ahead of the series against India, as the glass was way too close to his tendons. Although he was able to recover from this injury, it had an impact on his bowling skills and speed.

Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh, the Australian all-rounder, has also been forced to skip some matches due to a self-inflicted injury. This incident took place in 2019, when Mitchell Marsh unfortunately broke his hand and was ruled out for a few Tests for the Australian team. During a Sheffield Shield match, Marsh was unhappy with his performances, noting that the home Tests were coming close.

So, he went back to the dressing room in anger and punched the wall. This may not have harmed the wall, but it did enough harm to Mitchell Marsh, which made him miss the first Test of the home summer, for which he was preparing in the Sheffield Shield. He must’ve felt bad not for his injury but about the way in which he got himself injured and missed out on an important Test.

James Anderson

The star English bowler, James Anderson, also suffered an injury which came against his teammate. During 2010, the England Cricket Board held a trip for all the teammates to build a bond among each other. This was a trip to the Bavarian Forests, where all the players surely spent some good time with each other.

Amidst all the fun, James Anderson and Chris Tremlett went against each other in a friendly boxing match. But this match didn’t go in the favour of James Anderson, as he suffered broken ribs after the same. Fortunately, they were able to stop the match at the right time; otherwise, a trip to rebuild the team bond could have resulted in some more broken bones for the legendary bowler, James Anderson.

Ben Stokes

An injury, which was caused out of frustration, led to Ben Stokes missing out on the T20 World Cup 2014. He did not have a good performance in the tour of the West Indies, which made him quite frustrated, noting that the T20 World Cup is around the corner. In anger, Ben Stokes went to the locker room and punched the locker hard with his wrist.

Although it may not have harmed the locker, it did considerable harm to Stokes’ wrist, enough to ensure that he missed out on the 2014 T20 World Cup. When his injury was made public, it was seen as quite a hilarious incident by the fans, which made a champion player like Ben Stokes miss out on the tournament. Stokes also reacted in the same way, apologising for his actions.

Matthew Hayden

One injury adds to the other, which comes out to be true in the case of Matthew Hayden. In 2006, he was already ruled out for a few games as he suffered an injury to his finger. But at the time of recovery, he also used to go for some runs around the area, to ensure that his workout remained intact. One day, Hayden got chased by the street dogs while he was on a run.

While running away from the dogs, he ended up hurting his ankle, and even the dogs were able to attack him, taking advantage of the opportunity. Thus, a run came out to be the reason Hayden missed out on more matches than usual for the national team. Previously, he had already had a finger injury, and the addition of a gnashed ankle made it worse.

Glenn McGrath

Glenn McGrath, one of the finest pacers for the Australian cricket team, also got his name on the list of players who got themselves injured ridiculously. Before the second Test of the 2005 Ashes, the Australian players were playing the game of touch rugby, which didn’t go as expected for Glenn McGrath.

During the game, he stepped on a stray ball and eventually fell down to the ground, as he lost his balance. This resulted in McGrath suffering from torn ligaments, due to which he also missed out on the second Test match of the Ashes series. Fortunately, the injury was not brutal enough to make him miss out on a few more games in the series, as he took just a few weeks to recover.

Mark Boucher

No one knew Mark Boucher was Mark Butcher in the kitchen till he got himself injured while performing his cooking activities. This incident took place long ago in 2000, when Boucher was cutting the meat to prepare a meal for himself and his family. But in this process, he also ended up slicing through his fingers, which resulted in his tendons being sliced.

As a result, what started as a kitchen activity ended with Mark Boucher missing out on a few international matches for South Africa. For this, he also had to undergo surgeries to ensure that his tendons were back to normal. But he had the grit to play for the Proteas, as he announced his comeback shortly after the injury.
