Cheteshwar Pujara Scores Ranji Century, Surpasses 21,000 First-Class Runs
Cheteshwar Pujara marks his return to First-class cricket by scoring a ton against Chhattisgarh and crossing the 21,000 runs in his FC career. Batting in third position, he scored in impressive partnerships with Chirag Jani, Sheldon Jackson, and Arpit Vasavada.
Cheteshwar Pujara, the Indian batsman eager to regain his position in the Test squad, has returned to the Ranji Trophy. The last international match he played was against Australia during the WTC Final. Recently, he brought his form back in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 edition in a match being played at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
Pujara scored a century for Saurashtra and even crossed a historical mark of 21,000 runs in first-class cricket. He played some impressive drives and scored across every part of the ground, which helped Saurashtra to level the game. Coming in to bat at number 3, during the third day, Pujara had given Saurashtra the upper hand. Earlier, Chhattisgarh scored 578/7 and declared in the first innings.
Cheteshwar Pujara made a 68-run partnership with Chirag Jani, and after Jani’s dismissal, he was joined by Sheldon Jackson. He helped Pujara by scoring 62 runs off 106 balls before Ajay Mandal gave the breakthrough to Chhattisgarh. More than 100 runs have been completed in partnership between Arpit Vasavada and Cheteshwar Pujara for the 4th wicket.
Pujara’s Determination and Consistency
Cheteshwar Pujara had been determined to regain his spot on the Indian team, as he had performed impressively during the previous Ranji Trophy edition. Pujara smashed 829 runs alone in the previous tournament, and his performance in this game also shows that he has not lost his form. But, the competition for Pujara is still tough as Abhimanyu Easwaran has also been in the eyes of the Indian coaches for a long time due to his consistent performances.
