England Test captain Ben Stokes will be out for three months after tearing his left hamstring during England's Test series win over New Zealand. The 33-year-old will undergo surgery in January, missing England's T20 and ODI tours. Despite injury woes throughout 2024, Stokes remains determined, vowing a strong return to lead his team in upcoming challenges.
England has been dealt with a major blow as Test captain Ben Stokes has been sidelined for at least three months due to a torn left hamstring, requiring surgery in January 2024. The injury occurred during England’s 2-1 Test series victory over New Zealand in Hamilton, where Stokes bowled an exhausting 37 overs despite discomfort. This setback rules him out of England’s T20 and ODI tour of India and the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, raising concerns about his availability for the next Ashes series. To this, Stokes said:
Something else to overcome… go on then!, I’ve got so much more left in this tank and so much more blood, sweat, and tears to go through for my team and this shirt. There’s a reason I have a Phoenix permanently inked on my body. See you on the field to f*** some s*** up.
The 33-year-old all-rounder expressed determination to bounce back, stating, “I’ve got so much more left in this tank”. Stokes’ injury-plagued year also saw him miss four Tests in the autumn and the summer series against Sri Lanka. With Jofra Archer and Mark Wood also battling injuries, England faces a challenging road ahead. Stokes has reaffirmed his commitment to recovering fully and contributing to England’s success.
