In the 28th match of the Big Bash League 2024-25, the Melbourne Stars defeated the Sydney Sixers by 16 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Batting first, the Stars posted a competitive total of 156/5 in their 20 overs, led by Glenn Maxwell’s explosive 58* off 32 balls, which included five fours and three sixes. Beau Webster contributed a steady 48 off 41 balls, while Sean Abbott was the standout bowler for the Sixers, claiming 3/29 in his four overs.

In reply, the Sixers fell short, managing 140/9 despite a solid knock from James Vince, who scored 53 off 44 balls with six boundaries. Hayden Kerr chipped in with 21 off 15, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered. Mark Steketee was the pick of the Stars’ bowlers, taking 3/14 in his three overs, while Usama Mir and Peter Siddle bagged two wickets each.

The Stars’ disciplined bowling performance restricted the Sixers, who struggled to maintain momentum after Vince’s dismissal.
