Aakash Chopra Backs KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel Over Sarfaraz Khan for Australia’s Challenging Conditions

Aakash Chopra has questioned Sarfaraz Khan's unusual batting style and expressed concerns about his chances of success in Australia. He feels that the middle-order batter’s unorthodox technique may not work well against Australian conditions and could affect his performance there.

Sarfaraz’s impressive 150 against New Zealand in Bengaluru gave him an edge over Rahul, allowing him to play in the second and third tests in Pune and Mumbai. However, the 27-year-old couldn’t build on his first test century and struggled to score significantly in those matches, missing the chances to make a bigger impact.

Aakash Chopra discussed the team management’s choice to send KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel to Australia early for the second unofficial test between India A and Australia A. Chopra explained that, despite Sarfaraz Khan’s recent score of 150, he would still pick KL Rahul over Sarfaraz for the team, as he believes Rahul is the stronger choice for those conditions.

Aakash Chopra Favours KL Rahul, saying:

KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel have been sent to play in the India A game. In my very humble opinion, if you ask me to do a toss-up even today that you have to play one of KL Rahul and Sarfaraz (Khan) in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Sarfaraz scored 150 for sure, give it to him, but I will say go with KL Rahul.

After a poor performance in the first test against New Zealand, KL Rahul was dropped. Sarfaraz stepped in and made the most of his chance, scoring a century in the second innings, though India eventually lost the match. Commentator Aakash Chopra suggested Dhurv Jurel play instead of Sarfaraz, expressing doubts about Sarfaraz’s technique in Australian conditions.
