Yograj Singh Backs Arjun Tendulkar’s Batting Potential Under Yuvraj’s Mentorship
Yograj Singh believes Arjun Tendulkar has untapped batting talent and claims that with three months of mentorship from Yuvraj Singh, Arjun could become the next Chris Gayle. Despite not featuring in IPL 2025, Arjun impressed with a debut century for Goa and a five-wicket haul in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, though injuries have hindered consistency.

When the cricketing world least expected it, Yograj Singh stirred the pot with a bold prediction that Arjun Tendulkar could be transformed into the “next Chris Gayle” if mentored by his son, Yuvraj Singh, for just three months. According to Yograj, Arjun’s real talent lies in his batting, not his left-arm pace. Despite being bought by the Mumbai Indians for INR 30 lakh after initially going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, Arjun is yet to feature in a game this season. On this, Yograj Singh said:
With regards to Arjun, I said, focus less on his bowling and more on his batting. If Yuvraj takes Sachin’s son under his wings for three months, I bet he will become the next Chris Gayle.
Yograj recalled Arjun’s brief training stint under him during his move to Goa for the Ranji Trophy, where he scored a century on debut. However, recurring stress fractures and inconsistency have hampered his progress. His domestic record includes highlights like a five-wicket haul in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Arunachal.
Yuvraj, though unwilling to coach like his father, has a strong record of mentorship, having helped players like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma evolve. Yograj feels Arjun could benefit from a similar influence. While still warming the bench for MI, a shift in focus towards his batting, combined with guidance from Yuvraj, could unlock a new chapter in Arjun’s career.
