Wankhede Stadium, an iconic cricket venue, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with grand festivities from January 12 - 19. Highlights include a cricket match, a tribute to groundsmen, and a star-studded event featuring Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and other legends. The celebrations will unveil a coffee table book, postal stamp, and a laser show, marking the legendary journey since 1974.
The celebrations are all set to begin for Wankhede Stadium’s 50th anniversary, a monumental milestone in Mumbai’s cricket history. The grand event will unfold on January 19, 2025, but celebrations will kick off a week earlier. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has planned an exciting lineup of events, starting on January 12 with a match between MCA officials and Consul Generals. On January 15, the unsung heroes, the groundsmen, will be honored with a special health camp and lunch.
The key highlights of the grand evening on January 19 include a live performance by Avadhoot Gupte, music by Ajay-Atul, and a stunning laser show. The event will also unveil a coffee table book and a commemorative postal stamp celebrating the iconic venue. Legendary cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Rohit Sharma will lead the celebrations, with many other cricketing icons joining them.
As part of the festivities, the Mumbai team that played the first-ever first-class match at the stadium in 1974 will be felicitated. These celebrations aim to honor the stadium’s rich legacy, which has witnessed many unforgettable moments in cricket history, including India’s 2011 World Cup victory.
