In the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David was handed a one-match suspension after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the title clash against the Gujarat Titans. The Australian all-rounder will now miss RCB’s opening match of IPL 2027. The incident occurred during the 10th over of the first innings when David reacted to the fall of a wicket by aggressively throwing an ice bag in the direction of on-field umpire Nitin Menon.
Following an investigation, the IPL found David guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to throwing a ball or any piece of cricket equipment at or near a player, official, umpire, or any other person inappropriately or dangerously. As punishment, David was fined 50 per cent of his match fee and received 2 demerit points. He admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.
The suspension was triggered because this was David’s third Level 1 offence of the season. He had previously earned 1 demerit point in Match 20 and 2 more in Match 54. With the latest 2 points, his season tally reached 5 demerit points, resulting in an automatic one-match ban. Despite helping RCB win the IPL 2026 title, David’s campaign ended with disciplinary action that will keep him out of the first game of the next season.
