As the memories of India’s historic 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy triumph resurfaced, former captain Ajinkya Rahane became emotional while recalling the remarkable series victory in Australia. Rahane, who is currently part of the Sony Liv commentary panel for the ongoing Test series between Sri Lanka and India, watched clips of some of the iconic moments from the historic campaign during a pre-innings show.
The footage brought back memories of India’s famous victory at the Gabba, where the visitors completed a memorable series win. Rahane admitted that although he usually keeps his emotions under control on the field, remembering the 2020-21 triumph still makes him emotional. India’s success in Australia remains particularly significant, with the team becoming the first Asian side to win a Test series in the country.
India have won 2 Test series in Australia, in 2018-19 and 2020-21, along with 7 individual Test matches. Bangladesh recently became the second Asian team to win a Test in Australia after defeating the hosts by 9 wickets in Darwin. Pakistan and Sri Lanka are yet to register a Test victory in Australia. Rahane’s emotional reaction highlighted the lasting importance of one of India’s most memorable overseas Test achievements.
