Ravi Shastri Warns Against Rushing Jasprit Bumrah Return for Champions Trophy 2025
Ravi Shastri has expressed concerns about Jasprit Bumrah's potential return for the 2025 Champions Trophy, cautioning that rushing him back from injury could be high risk. Bumrah, who has not fully recovered from a demanding Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, is not part of India's squad for the England ODIs. Shastri stressed the need for careful management of Bumrah’s fitness, given his long-term career and expectations upon his return.
For the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has expressed concerns regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and availability. Despite being an integral part of India’s bowling lineup, Bumrah has not fully recovered from his injury, which kept him out of India’s squad for the England ODI series. He said:
I think it’s high risk. There’s too much big cricket coming up for India and at this stage of his career, I think he’s too precious to be just called on for one game out of the blue and asked to deliver. The expectations will be so much. They’ll think that he’ll come in straight away and set the world on fire. It’s never that easy when you come back from injury.
Shastri warned that rushing Bumrah back for the Champions Trophy could be high risk, given the immense pressure and expectations on him. He emphasized that Bumrah, with his long career ahead, should not be pushed to perform without proper recovery. Shastri suggested that expecting Bumrah to come back and perform at his peak immediately after injury is unrealistic.
India will play all their Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, with their first match scheduled for February 20, 2025, against Bangladesh. The tournament will be held in a hybrid model, and India will be led by Rohit Sharma, with Shubman Gill serving as his deputy.
