Ramiz Raja Critiques PCB: Kirsten’s Exit Complicates Future Coaching Prospects

Ramiz Raja, the former legendary Pakistan cricketer, has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials for their handling of Gary Kirsten's abrupt resignation as head coach of the white-ball team. He argues that this unexpected exit will complicate the future scenario and efforts to recruit international coaching talent.

Kirsten’s tenure began in April 2024 with a two-year contract, but it was impaired by a disappointing T20 World Cup, where Pakistan failed to advance past the group stage and suffered defeats from underdog teams like the USA and the biggest rival of all-time history of the Pakistan cricket, India. His resignation came just a week before the team’s tour of Australia, during which he did not coach a single ODI.

Raja expressed concern that the backlash from Kirsten’s departure would make it challenging to find suitable international coaches in the future. He emphasized the need for clarity regarding a coach’s role, suggesting that Kirsten should have been better informed about his responsibilities and objectives within the team and it could be the solution to this complicated scenario.

The timing of Kirsten’s resignation has also raised eyebrows, as Raja believes his experience would have been crucial for the upcoming series in Australia.

“Losing a coach just before a tour is not ideal,”

he remarked.

In light of these developments, the PCB has appointed Mohammad Rizwan as the new white-ball captain, with Salman Ali Agha serving as vice-captain. As the team prepares for its series against Australia, which begins on November 4, the implications of Kirsten’s departure continue to resonate within the cricketing landscape.
