Pat Cummins Optimistic About Australia’s Chances Against India Amid Pressure
With the Indian cricket team facing scrutiny following their historic Test series loss at home to New Zealand, Australian captain Pat Cummins believes his side will have the upper hand in the upcoming five-match series following the bad momentum of the world cricket giant, team India.
During the launch of his book, “Test,” Cummins addressed reporters and commented on the pressure the Rohit Sharma-led team will experience during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
I think any time a team is under pressure, it’s not a bad thing if you’re playing against them. But they’ve been out here before and performed well. Our job is to try and keep them quiet, see how we go,
He said, acknowledging India’s past successes in challenging situations. He emphasized the need for Australia to keep the Indian players subdued throughout the series.
Despite having played 62 Tests, Cummins has yet to secure a series victory against India. The 31-year-old, who made his Test debut in 2011, has taken 50 wickets across 13 matches, including the World Test Championship final against India. Historically, out of the 12 Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, eight have been held in Australia, where India has claimed victory in the last two series.
As Cummins prepares to captain Australia against India at home for the first time, he is determined to set the record straight and capitalize on the pressure facing the visiting team.
His keen interest in achieving his maiden test series victory against India was reflected when he remarked.
It’s kind of the one big thing that I want to tick off. Particularly winning at home. Most Australians, me included, expect us to do well whenever we play at home. We’ve lost the (last) two series against them (in Australia), so this is a big one. We feel like our team is in a really good place, so we’ve got no reason (to think) why we shouldn’t perform well. I just always expect us to do well against whoever we play. But India, particularly, is having a big year, big season.
The Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024 is all set to start on 22nd November between India and Australia.
