New Era In Pakistan Cricket: Mohammad Rizwan Set To Lead with Unity And Strength
Basit Ali has expressed support for Mohammad Rizwan as he steps into his first role as captain. Ali believes Rizwan’s leadership will foster unity and bring the players together as a team.
Supporting Mohammad Rizwan as the new captain, Basit Ali believes he will be a powerful leader who will unite everybody in the team. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ali said,
“Rizwan won’t just make small moves, he’ll have a huge impact, like an atom bomb. He has the qualities to unite everyone and changes will be visible soon”.
Babar Azam stepped down as captain following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 last November. However, Shahid Afridi, the new captain struggled in his leadership role, resulting in a 4-0 loss to New Zealand in the T20I series, Azam was reappointed as Pakistan’s white-ball captain.
After a poor performance, selectors dropped Babar Azam from the England test series following the first game, along with senior players like Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Sarfraz Ahmed, who missed the last two tests. Azam, Afridi and Shah have now been recalled for the upcoming ODI and T20IS series against Australia under the new captain. Interestingly, Rizwan has played many games under Azam’s leadership over the past few years.
Pakistan is set to play the three ODIs and three T20IS against Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5. Mohammad Rizwan will lead the ODI series, while Salman Ali will captain the team in the T20I series. Key players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah will miss the Zimbabwe tour. Rizwan also has time to prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, to be held in Pakistan in February, where he’ll lead the ODI squad.
