Major Overhaul in Pakistan Cricket Selection Panel | Captains and Coaches No Longer Involved
Aaqib Javed will lead a newly-formed five-member selection committee as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) implements significant changes to its national selection process. The most notable alteration involves removing team captains and head coaches from the panel, centralizing decision-making power among the new committee members, including Azhar Ali, Aleem Dar, Asad Shafiq, and Hassan Cheema.
Pakistan Cricket Board has made some big changes in the national selection committee where the team will be selected by a newly-appointed five-member committee including the likes of Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, and Hassan Cheema. Moreover, the Panel has decided that they will be off-boarding all the team captains and head coaches to make the selection an easy and clean process for everyone.
The decision to remove voting rights from the captain and head coach during the selection process allows for consultation while streamlining decision-making. This change aims to ensure that selections are made from a broader, more objective standpoint, minimizing potential biases from on-field leadership. The move follows Pakistan’s defeat to England in the Multan Test by an innings and 47 runs.
First Assignment of the Newly Formed Selection Committee
Upon their appointment, the new selection panel made a bold move by dropping Babar Azam and including Kamran Ghulam, who scored a spectacular century. They also gave Sajid Khan an opportunity, and he impressed by taking seven wickets in an innings. These performances have drawn acclaim from the selectors, validating their strategy for team composition.
The selection committee is tasked with finalizing Pakistan’s squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Australia, set to take place on Australian soil. This challenge will test their judgement in assembling a competitive team. The series includes three ODIs and T20 matches, starting on November 4, 2024, and concluding with the final T20 on November 18. These matches present a crucial opportunity for the team to showcase their skills on the international stage.
