How One Statement from Shashank Singh Got Punjab Kings into the Top 2 of the Points Table
Punjab Kings have now stormed into the top two of the IPL 2025 points table after defeating Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in Jaipur. This marks their first playoff entry since 2014. A clip of Shashank Singh’s two-month-old bold claim predicting PBKS in the top two has gone viral, fulfilling his prophecy with confidence and performance.

Over the last 11 years of the IPL, Punjab Kings have gone through a journey where they have constantly hit so many lows in their IPL journey that the fans were always ready for a heartbreak. However, coming to the IPL 2025 with a revamped squad, consisting of Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting, the fans started believing again for a miracle. And on 26th May 2025, the wishes of the fans were finally fulfilled as Punjab Kings secured a spot in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025 after defeating Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in Jaipur. It was a high-stakes match, as the winner would directly qualify for the top two, and PBKS rose to the occasion. This is the first time since 2014 that Punjab Kings have reached the playoffs. That year, they went all the way to the final but lost in a last-over thriller to Kolkata Knight Riders.

While the playoff qualification might seem like a result of the last league match, the journey truly began two months ago when Shashank Singh appeared on a podcast with Shubankar Mishra. When asked about his prediction for the top four, Shashank boldly said, “Punjab Kings number one. Top two bol raha hu,” confidently claiming PBKS would finish in the top two. That statement, once seen as overly optimistic, has now gone viral after coming true. Shashank revealed that his belief in the team only grew after meeting Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer. “The day I met them, I just knew. I spoke with Shreyas, and he told me there’s a difference between believing and doing. Earlier I just believed. Now I know,” he said.
