South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has sparked controversy by leaving PSL’s Peshawar Zalmi to join IPL’s Mumbai Indians as Lizaad Williams’ replacement. With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 set to begin on March 22 and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) running from April 11 to May 18, tensions have escalated after South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch left PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi to join Mumbai Indians as a replacement for injured pacer Lizaad Williams. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has responded by serving Bosch a legal notice through his agent, demanding justification for his withdrawal from PSL commitments.

For the first time, PSL is running concurrently with IPL, which has raised concerns among PSL franchises about players prioritizing the financially lucrative IPL. Some PSL teams have even discussed imposing a ban on players who switch after signing PSL contracts. Bosch was initially drafted in PSL’s diamond category in January but chose to withdraw once Mumbai Indians offered him an IPL contract.

The PCB’s decision to shift PSL’s schedule from February-March to April-May aimed to improve player availability but has instead led to direct competition with IPL. Given IPL’s financial strength and global appeal, more such cases may arise in the future. PCB has warned of consequences for Bosch’s withdrawal, but it remains to be seen how this dispute will be resolved.
