In the latest IPL 2025 controversy, England batter Harry Brook has been handed a two-year ban by the BCCI after pulling out of the tournament due to monetary reasons. Brook was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction but withdrew before the season, marking the second consecutive year he opted out after being picked. Brook also skipped IPL 2024 citing personal reasons. As per IPL rules, players who withdraw after being auctioned face a two-year ban unless injury is officially confirmed by their national board.

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke supported the BCCI’s decision, stating that such a firm stand is necessary to maintain the auction’s integrity. Clarke revealed on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast that some players withdraw if unhappy with their bid amount, but this practice cannot be allowed. He confirmed Brook is the first player to face this two-year ban.

Brook had a disappointing IPL 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring only 190 runs in 11 matches despite fetching ₹13.25 crore. His century against KKR was his only highlight. Delhi Capitals are yet to announce Brook’s replacement but have named Axar Patel as captain. Their IPL 2025 campaign begins against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
