After the news of the BCCI considering changes to India’s coaching staff following batting struggles in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kevin Pietersen has expressed interest in the batting coach role. Pietersen, a former England star with 23 Test centuries and a key figure in England’s 2010/11 Ashes win, confirmed his availability on social media, responding to reports of BCCI’s plans to strengthen the support staff.
Currently, the Indian coaching team includes Gautam Gambhir (head coach), Morne Morkel (bowling coach), T. Dilip (fielding coach), and assistants Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar. The need for additional support, especially for overseas tours, was highlighted in a recent review meeting. Pietersen retired in 2018 and has since worked as a cricket commentator. His unmatched record in India during England’s 2012/13 tour adds weight to his candidacy.
