IND vs AUS: David Warner Backs McSweeney, Labuschagne and Smith for Big Performances in Border Gavaskar Trophy

With Khawaja likely to retire in the next 12 to 18 months, the former cricketer turned commentator stressed the importance of giving 25-year-old Nathan McSweeney more opportunities. Recently, McSweeney led Australia A to a 2-0 series win over India A. In his four innings, the right-handed batter scored 39, 88, 14, and 25.

David Warner commented on Nathan McSweeney’s recent performances:

It’s a great time for him to come in; it’s a big series. I think he’s got the technique (and) the patience to partner up with Uzzie to allow himself to score big. I’ve penciled him (McSweeney) in for the highest run score this (summer), so I’m looking forward to that. I’m also looking forward to seeing how he adapts batting with someone like Usman Khawaja as well because it’s a partnership that you have to build.

David Warner backed Marnus Labuschagne to perform well in the upcoming Test series against India. Although Labuschagne’s average has been just 29.68 since 2023, Warner believes he has the skill and ability to make a significant impact in the series.

Marnus Labuschagne has scored 785 runs in 10 Test matches against India, while Steve Smith has over 2,000 runs in Tests against them. After briefly opening, Smith returned to his usual No.4 position. The first match of the five-game series starts on November 22 in Perth.
