Cricket Fans React as Scott Boland Strikes Twice on Rain-Hit Day 1 of Second Test

For the second consecutive Test series contest, weather conditions have become a major talking point as Australia gained an early advantage over South Africa on the opening day of the second Test at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on October 18, 2026. After winning the toss, Australia elected to bowl first and exploited the favourable conditions to put South Africa under pressure. Persistent rain and wet ground conditions delayed the start by nearly two hours, allowing only 12.2 overs of play before the umpires abandoned the day’s proceedings.

Australian fast bowler Scott Boland emerged as the standout performer, claiming two wickets for just five runs in 3.2 overs, including two maiden overs. He first dismissed opener Aiden Markram with a delivery that breached his defence before removing David Bedingham for a duck on the very next ball. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey completed the catch to leave South Africa struggling at 12/2. South African captain Temba Bavuma remained unbeaten on four runs, while debutant Marques Ackerman was not out on five when play ended.

Ackerman made his debut as South Africa introduced several changes to their playing eleven, including the return of Kagiso Rabada. Australia entered the match after winning the opening Test in Durban and will aim to extend their series lead. Day two is scheduled to begin at 9:45 am local time, although further rain could disrupt proceedings.
